Le passage de la page à l’écran : L’adaptation de la création littéraire
Keywords:
Film adaptation, Children’s literature, (Re)interpretation, The Little Prince, Mark OsborneAbstract
The film adaptation of literature is an extremely detailed and sophisticated process, which puts a lot of pressure on the director of the movie, but also on the whole team itself. Translating Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s The Little Prince for the big screen was Mark Osborne’s (re)interpretation of the original story, oscillating between fidelity and originality, between keeping the main ideas of the novel and intervening with creative ideas for contemporary audiences. Addition of new characters to the animated movie reveals not only Osborne’s professionalism as a filmmaker, but also his creativity to tell “a story in a story”. We can therefore talk of literature and cinematography as two distinct arts which complement each other, providing opportunities for discovery, interpretation and improvement. In this way, the film adaptation of famous literature has become a way of attracting the attention of a broad and diversified public.
